Mid-Century Modern
Form Follows Forever
Born in the post-war optimism of 1940s–60s America and Scandinavia, Mid-Century Modern remains the most enduringly influential design movement of the twentieth century. Tapered legs, organic silhouettes, the seamless dialogue between teak and upholstery, the Eames lounge chair's eternal logic — these are not retro artefacts. They are benchmarks against which all subsequent furniture design is measured. The style's genius was the conviction that beauty and democratic production were not in conflict: that a well-designed chair should be available to everyone. That conviction has never dated.
